Full Circle, Forward Together: Atty. Micah De Guzman’s Call to the Next Generation

It was a full-circle moment wrapped in pride and promise as Atty. Micah Lorelle De Guzman, founder & co-managing partner of Go & De Guzman Law Offices, returned to her alma mater, the International School for Children (TISC), to deliver the keynote address at its 21st Graduation Exercises and 10th Completer’s Convocation held last April 15 at SM City Rosario.

The theme, “Generation of Unity: Partners for the New Philippines,” set the tone for a deeply reflective and inspiring afternoon. Addressing Grade 6 and Grade 10 graduates, Atty. De Guzman did more than recall her student days—she offered a message that resonated with urgency, empathy, and hope for a better country.

Thank you to my beloved alma mater for warmly welcoming me back 11 years later—this time, on the other side of the stage,” she said. The line struck a chord with parents and students alike, encapsulating the humility of someone who has walked the path from youthful dreams to purposeful leadership.

Initially aspiring to become a doctor, Atty. De Guzman spoke candidly about how life had other plans—leading her instead to the legal profession and eventually co-founding a law firm. Her story reminded the graduates that change is not something to fear but something to welcome. “The first gift of graduation is a fresh start,” she said, encouraging them to embrace the unknown with both courage and conviction.

But perhaps the most powerful moments of her speech were rooted in the broader societal context. With the poise of a lawyer and the heart of a mentor, she delved into the true meaning of unity: “Unity is not uniformity… it’s about holding different perspectives but still choosing to build together.” She connected this principle to the constitutional guarantee of equal protection, urging the young audience to take seriously their role in shaping an inclusive and compassionate society.

She did not shy away from difficult truths. Citing that nearly 11 million Filipino children remain out of school, Atty. De Guzman reminded the graduates of their privilege—and their responsibility. “Use your education not just to get ahead, but to bring others with you,” she urged.

Her final message was a rallying cry for service and solidarity: “Let’s build a country where we don’t just look out for ourselves, but for others too… Now is the time to find your purpose. So go out there—be brave enough to care. Be compassionate enough to unite. Be the change you want to see.”

For Atty. De Guzman and the law firm she co-founded, this moment is more than just a return to her roots—it’s a reaffirmation of a lifelong commitment to justice, leadership, and nation-building. In honoring the graduates, she challenged them to step into the future—not just with ambition, but with heart.
